(Su Qing, Journalist of Cultural Figures) Just as the golden snake dances wildly and songs resound in the prosperous age, the overseas Chinese unite to build a powerful nation dream. On the evening of January 25th, the “2025 Spring Festival Gala for All Overseas Chinese in Japan (Year of the Snake)” was grandly held in Tokyo, Japan. It was hosted by the Union of Chinese Residing in Japan (General Incorporated Association), co-sponsored by Sunshine Co., Ltd. in a special way, and co-organized by the General Association of Chinese Residents in Japan and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Japan. It was supported by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Japan, China Culture Figures Magazine, Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association, China Enterprises Association (Japan), and the China Cultural Center. It was undertaken by the World Artists Union (General Incorporated Association), and coordinated by China TV Co., Ltd., the volunteer team of the Federation of Chinese Associations in Japan, Katsuyoshi Co., Ltd. in Japan, and The Dragon Charity Society. Nearly 2,000 guests from various sectors of China and Japan were present at the scene to celebrate the 2025 Spring Festival together with overseas Chinese in Japan, including: Wu Jianghao, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Japan; Yukio Hatoyama, the former Prime Minister of Japan and the Director-General of the East Asia Community Institute; Shoichi Kondo, a member of the House of Representatives of Japan and the Chairman of the House of Representatives Environment Committee; He Naihe, the representative of the organizer, the director of the Federation of Chinese Associations in Japan, and the chairman of the Spring Festival Gala Organizing Committee; Seno Kiyomi, the director of the Japan-China Association (General Incorporated Association); Tokichiro Utsunomiya, the president of the Japan-China Friendship Association (a public-interest incorporated association); He Delun, the president of the Union of Chinese Residing in Japan; Jiang Yongyu, the representative director of Sunshine Co., Ltd., the representative of the special co-sponsor; Wang Jiaxun, the president of the China Enterprises Association (Japan); Xiao Jingru, the president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Japan;Yan Hao, President of the Evaluation Committee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Japan;Chen Longjin, President of the General Association of Chinese Residents in Japan; Saegusa Tomihiro, the president of Ito Yokado Co., Ltd.; Makoto Inafuku, the president of Nansei Steel Co., Ltd.; the leadership team and all members of the Union of Chinese Residing in Japan.
The Spring Festival belongs not only to China but also to the world. At the end of the Year of the Dragon, “The Spring Festival: Chinese New Year Celebrations”, a Chinese social practice, was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This is not only an honor for the Chinese people but also a gift from the Chinese to the world. As the largest organization of overseas Chinese in Japan, the Union of Chinese Residing in Japan has been hosting the “Spring Festival Gala for All Overseas Chinese in Japan” since 2020. The gala has been held for consecutive five years and has gradually become a cultural feast for the Chinese New Year. This event has been shared and enjoyed by overseas Chinese in Japan and even Chinese people around the world.
Particularly noteworthy is that the 2025 Spring Festival Gala for All Overseas Chinese in Japan (Year of the Snake) has invited renowned artists from the Chinese mainland, such as famous tenor singer, vocal music educator, and Dean of the China-ASEAN Art College Yu Junjian, soprano singer, vocal music professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, and national first-class actress Wang Lida, and Chinese traditional music artist Fang Jinlong. They performed on the same stage with Japanese dancers Sakon, Ukon, Japanese enka singer Ozawa Momoko, as well as professional art troupes from both China and Japan. Once again, this event has presented a Spring Festival extravaganza for Chinese people around the world.
At the gala venue, the “Harmony of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity - ‘Aerospace and Antarctica’ Photography Art Exhibition” was also held. The exhibition displayed the working scenes of Liu Yang, China's first female astronaut, a deputy to the National People’s Congress, a heroic astronaut, and the public welfare image ambassador for China’s space program, in the Chinese space station, along with a series of her photographic works. Additionally, photographic works taken in Antarctica by Wang Baosheng, the president of China Culture Figures Magazine and an adjunct professor at the International Sinology Research Center of Shandong University, were also on display.
He Naihe, the chairman of the Spring Festival Gala Organizing Committee, stated that the joint performances by overseas Chinese artists in Japan and Japanese artists are a major feature of the Union of Chinese Residing in Japan. The aim is to promote non-governmental friendly exchanges between Japan and China.
Cheng Bo, the chief director of the Spring Festival Gala, said, “We have not only maintained the lively and festive atmosphere of celebrating the New Year but also incorporated new ideas, such as high-tech elements. We have preserved the fine traditions while demonstrating China’s characteristic of leading the new era with high-tech. Through a series of activities, he hoped that the 2025 Spring Festival Gala would be more lively, more festive than last year, and better reflect the prosperity of the Chinese nation.
