During the period of the country’s fight against COVID-19 as all Chinese people stand united, Guo Zhenqian, member of Ningxia Literature and History Research Museum, advisor of Ningxia Artists Association, meticulously created the engraving work Unfailing Love as Mountains, reproduced artistically the CPC Central Committee had adopted “extraordinary measures” to tackle the extraordinary incident of the COVID-19 epidemic; recorded vividly through a united will, the Chinese people put up a strong defense to contain the epidemic; described emotionally a vast number of medical workers threw themselves into the battle without hesitation, heedless of their own safety, they headed for the frontline against COVID-19 epidemic.
Chinese Cultural Figures (reporter Su Qing) At the beginning of 2020, the unexpectedly COVID-19 epidemic affected everyone’s hearts. In this deadly battle with the serious epidemic, the Chinese people and the Chinese nation displayed immense bravery of having the courage to fight and the mettle to win, and the features of China’s spirit as putting people’s lives first, nationwide solidarity, sacrifice, respecting science and a sense of mission for humanity.

Guo Zhenqian spent more than two months to create hardly on his engraving work Unfailing Love as Mountains, which was based on observing the fate of mankind, regardless of its form, content, and depth of thought. It is a painting depicting cherishing life and emancipating great love. Just as the calligraphy and painting critic Liao Yirong said: The work eulogizes our great motherland, the people, the people's Liberation Army and the angels in white, reflecting the grand scene of the whole country uniting and overcoming the difficulties. The color of the whole work is saturated, full of sunshine and hope, deep, warm, inspiring and uplifting!
There has been many sleepless nights while Guo zhenqian collecting data and materials. He entered into a state of selfless creation. With the compassion, mission and responsibility that an artist should have, he integrated his empathy into the people in the hardest-hit areas of the epidemic, feeling the suffering together and fighting against the fate. The work has been repeatedly scrutinized and the draft has been changed several times.
The theme of the work is: Unfailing Love as Mountains, Overcome Difficulties Together——Homage to the Great Angels in White. The whole picture is a square composition, full and stable, with a positive atmosphere. The foreground of the picture is the Chinese people and the Land Force, the Navy, and the Air Force of the People's Liberation Army who supported the fight against the epidemic; the middle part is mountains composed of angels in white and Mr. Zhong Nanshan. In the description of Mr. Zhong Nanshan's image, the Chinese painting line and surface combined with abstract and concrete contrast technique is adopted. The head depiction is highly realistic, reflecting the real elements, while the body and clothing patterns only use single line to reflect the blur effect. Abstract and concrete practiced into a strong contrast; when expressing Mr. Zhong’s stoical and fortitudinous face, he coke cracked rubbed all the lines with short straight lines, like carved by a carved knife, which is powerful and vigorous, releasing a granite-like texture. The three faces, bodies and angels in white are cast into the shape of a "mountain" bearing unfailing love; the background of the picture is a large area of red and the vast and majestic Great Wall, which composes a heroic symphony for the Chinese people who are united and overcome the COVID-19 epidemic, and the angels in white are the notes of this music.
Life is of paramount importance, the people of the whole country unite to fight the epidemic is the main theme of this work. There are also scenes in which China's support for foreign countries is welcomed and appreciated, which reflects the spirit of boundless internationalism and serves as a model for the world to sum up experiences in fighting against the epidemic, and reflects China's responsibilities and actions. In today’s picture-reading era, Guo Zhenqian boldly combined traditional Chinese painting techniques with modern printmaking language, bringing together thousands of people into one picture, reflecting a kind of cohesive force, which is very rare and valuable, and this created a brand-new painting style with a strong visual impact.
Guo Zhenqian’s Unfailing Love as Mountains composes a chapter of love. It is an artist's responsibility and patriotism. It implements the ideas of "the Belt and Road Initiative" and "Community of Shared Future for Mankind" advocated by China, which is the theme in the process of human civilization. Only with unfailing love and dedication can a person created works full of the zeitgeist.
Guo Zhenqian, used name: Guo Ai, pseudonym: Bai Hei, was born on September 6, 1954, graduated from the fine arts college of Ningxia University, majored in traditional Chinese painting.
